College Colors Day – A Start to the School Year

What colors are you wearing September 2? I only ask because September 2 is College Colors Day! When I was first told that the employees of Church Hill Classics would be participating in “College Colors Day,” I immediately wanted to find out what this day is all about.

I went directly to the College Colors Day website and saw “Step 1: Wear Apparel Representing your Favorite College on Friday, September 2, 2011.”

The point is, according to the website, “Whether it’s at the office or school, work or play, running errands or running the company – WEAR your college colors* wherever you are!”

That sounds easy enough. (I’ll be in orange for my alma mater – Syracuse University). Then I thought, how did this day get started and why?

The website answered this too: “Additionally, College Colors Day, which coincides with “back to school” and the kick-off of intercollegiate athletics, strives to advocate higher education through increased public awareness, and celebrates the achievements of colleges and universities, acknowledging their fundamental importance.”

College Colors Day started in 2005, and the website noted that participation has grown. In scanning their home page, I noticed their Twitter account showed that some governors have proclaimed September 2 as College Colors Day in their states.

A long list of participants from all across the country is posted on the College Color Days website. Church Hill Classics is joining in with a great mix of schools, colleges/universities, college bookstores, organizations, businesses, a military company, academies, pre-schools, high schools and specific classes from public schools.

There are also libraries, hotels, learning centers, design companies, healthcare, hospitals, and medical centers, visiting nurses, a hallmark store, clothing stores, the chamber of commerce, trucking and construction companies, a chocolate company, dairy farms, youth sports teams, athletic departments, banks, commissions, and many, many others.

Looking forward to a fun-filled College Colors Day with my co-workers!
