Drum Roll for the Top Ten Graduation Gift Ideas!

Top 10 listsWritten by Anita R. Holtz, Marketing Department

While I was growing up in the Philadelphia suburb of Levittown, Pennsylvania during the late 1950s, our 17” black and white television was an important member of the family.  The Dick Clark Show on Saturday nights was a must (my sister and I outnumbered my father for channel selection).  The show featured the “Top Ten” records from ten to one for the upcoming week.  While I didn’t always agree with the Number One choice, the reverse order’s anticipation, a clever gimmick, was what I remember.

Rams Rule! Everything is “Ram-tastic” at Colorado State University & CSU Bookstore

Colorado State University in Fort Collins is a seriously spirited school. It’s not only the athletics or the official mascot, CAM the Ram, that makes this so. It’s not all about Colorado State’s snappy Fight Song or the prominent school colors of green and gold (reflecting the school's agricultural beginnings). From what pops up on the university’s website, it’s obviously about the name…the Rams.

Tree planted to honor UConn School of Law Professor Emeritus

Professor Emeritus Colin Tait - Tree and PlaqueUniversity of Connecticut School of Law Facebook and Twitter pages were bursting with photos of a tree dedication held recently to honor Professor Emeritus Colin Tait for four decades of his teaching, expert writings, and service to the law profession.

The professor’s story and commitment are wonderful. The tree planting and the type of tree happened to catch my interest.

The newly planted tree, a white oak, alludes to UConn’s seal, and of course Connecticut’s state tree, so it’s a gift with perfect symbolism. The school seal has oak leaves and acorns in its center, with the name of the University and School of Law as a border around it.

150th Anniversary and an Amazing Diploma Tradition at Gallaudet University

There are a couple of hefty milestones being celebrated this year at Gallaudet University in Washington D.C., plus an awesome tradition continues regarding the University’s diplomas. (Guess who signs them?)

Honoring Service on Veteran's Day - Bookstore Manager as Reservist in Iraq

Just about a year ago, Troy Novak, Manager, of the Dakota Textbook Company at the University of North Dakota, was not available at the store. He was overseas in Iraq until March, where he was stationed as a reservist with the Air Force.  When I had the occasion to talk to Troy after his return, I asked him if he would write about his experience for a Veteran's Day blog.
