As a follow-up to my scholarship blog in September, has anyone began their search for scholarship money? After posting some tips to begin your search, I have decided to bring to your attention a few “interesting” scholarships out there. We understand that filling out long, boring forms and ensuring you meet a lengthy list of criteria can make the process not so enjoyable. Well, these scholarships have a different approach and might make it a little more fun, or at least interesting:
1. National Beef Ambassador Program
This scholarship is a national public speaking competition and is open to students between the ages of 16 and 19. The winners of this competition are chosen to represent the beef industry, and can win scholarship money and cash prizes.

2. Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship
On the opposite end of the spectrum, there is a scholarship offered to two graduating US high school seniors who have shown support for vegetarianism within their schools and local communities. You have to submit an essay on how you have promoted vegetarianism, and you can win one of the two $5,000 scholarships!
3. Duck Brand Duct Tape Stuck at Prom Contest
This one is for the more creative students out there! You have to be a student who is14 years or older and attending a high school prom in the spring. You must enter with another person as a couple, and attend a high school prom wearing complete attire or accessories made from duct tape! You are judged based on originality, workmanship, quantity of Duck Tape used, use of colors, and creative use of accessories. Prizes include scholarship money and a cash prize to the school hosting the prom.
4. Chick and Sophie Major Memorial Duck Calling Contest
Do you have a special talent for calling ducks? I know I don’t, but if this is a talent you do have, this is the scholarship for you! The contest is open to any high school senior in the U.S. who can call ducks. Contestants are given 90 seconds to use four calls: hail, feed, comeback and mating.
1st place – $1,500
2nd place – $500
3rd place – $300
4th place – $200
5. Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship
You can win money for college by being a skateboard activist! The Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship awards skateboarders who are high school seniors with a GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Recipients must enroll as a full-time undergraduate at an accredited college or university the fall after high school graduation and must be a US citizen.
One student will win a $5,000 scholarship and three others will each win a $1,000 scholarship.
Now is the time to be applying for all of these scholarships. There is so much out there, so be sure to take advantage of the many opportunities. If you are on the hunt for scholarship money, you may be interested in the blog I wrote in September for scholarship search tips.
