College Students Nationwide Work at Recycling – Well Before Earth Day

Reuse. Recycle!As Earth Day is celebrated on April 22, you’re going to want to know how the end of the 13th annual RecycleMania tournament concluded on March 30. There were 523 colleges and universities competing for eight weeks to increase recycling participation by students and staff and to increase awareness about waste reduction programs on campus. During the tournament, colleges and universities collected 90.3 million pounds of recyclables materials!

What are colleges and universities doing for Earth Day?

On Monday, April 22, Earth Day is celebrated by every college and university throughout the country. For most schools, Earth Week is the rule because there is tons of information, games, and activities to share with students and staff about sustainability that cannot fit into one day. Below are some examples.

  • On Friday, April 19th UW hosted their Earth Day Kick-Off. One of the events is a Trashion Fashion Show, which is a trash-oriented fashion show. It shows that ‘trash’ can be recycled. All week long, UW is hosting activities to involve students and staff.

Earth Day is a worldwide celebration. Communities everywhere around the world celebrate Earth Day in their own way. Australia is one of the many countries getting involved in Earth Day. They are hosting a Picnic for Earth.
