Scholarship's Creative Winners Announced by Diploma Frame Company "Frame My Future" Scholarship Contest 2012
Monroe, CT – May 18, 2012 – Church Hill Classics (CHC), a leading manufacturer in the college diploma frame industry, has announced five Winners in their "Frame My Future" Scholarship Contest 2012. Chosen from over 10,500 entries received from across the country, each of the Winners will receive a $1,000 scholarship for the 2012-2013 academic year. This is the 4th consecutive year the scholarship has been offered.
The Grand Prize Winner, Cari Logston of Stevenson Ranch, California, will receive $1,000 towards her tuition. She plans to attend The Master's College in Santa Clarita, California, in fall 2012 to study communications with an emphasis on electronic media. As the Grand Prize Winner, she also has won a $1,000 donation to her university's scholarship endowment fund. The donation to the college will benefit other students during their academic journey.
Cari photographed a striking image of her hand and her mother's hand each holding a cup of tea. Along with the photo, Cari wrote a meaningful explanation of what the photograph is about and how it defines her future.
"On the right is my hand that I use to create and pursue my passion for graphic design," Cari wrote. "My mom's hand on the left, along with the rest of her body, is severely paralyzed due to Multiple Sclerosis. My hands lift, carry, feed, and assist her daily. My hands also write, draw, design, and play music. These hands are how I frame my future because I will use mine to create and achieve academic success in addition to functioning for all the things my mom's hands cannot do."
Winners of Frame My Future Scholarship:
Sam O'Hare of Churchville, Maryland, submitted a photo of himself covered from face to fingers with many significant words to visually show what "frames his future." Words included: "inspiration," "composer," "believe," and "dreams." Sam is holding onto a guitar in the photo because music is his passion. Sam plans to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, in fall 2012. He wrote, "I am ready to take my determination, great work ethic, and skills to the next level through the program at Berklee, attaining a degree in what I love."
Emily Mangan of Pleasant Hill, Oregon, entered a drawing unique to her interest in veterinary school and working with large animals. Her drawing pictured a horse with its mane flowing as it runs, but also showing the horse's heart and bone structure, and a graphic recording of an electrocardiogram. She explained, "I drew this horse with prominent anatomical structures to show the personal and the medical levels of interaction that must coincide for successful medicine." During the 2012-2013 academic year, Emily plans to attend Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, and she anticipates matriculating into their veterinary school two years from now.
Abigail Scott of Dover, Arkansas, is enrolled in a nursing program, and eventually plans to become a Nurse Practitioner or Certified Nurse Midwife, offering charity or income-based health care in obstetrics and gynecology. Her photo entry shows herself dressed in graduation hat and robe holding two framed photos. One is of herself holding a stethoscope, and the other of a pregnant woman that she is tending to. Abigail plans to attend the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton in Arkansas.
Eric Seo of San Jose, California, entered the scholarship contest with a photo of himself reading a book while he impressively holds his body off the floor with the strength of one arm. His laptops and keyboard are nearby. Eric elaborated that dancing and working on the computer are what he loves. "I started B-boying, or breakdancing, when I was a freshman in high-school. B-boying has taught me to work hard, stay positive, be myself, and most importantly--never think something is impossible." He plans to attend West Valley College in Saratoga, California. His future includes working in the computer science field and to continue dancing.
This nationwide scholarship contest has enabled Church Hill Classics to give back to students interested in pursuing their dreams of a college education. Students are asked to submit an original "creation" through an image which expresses what they hope to achieve in their personal and professional life after college. Entries included photographs, poems, essays, collages, drawings, paintings, and other imaginative pieces. Entries needed to communicate: This is how I "Frame My Future." Submissions were accepted from October 2011 through March 2012.
The contest received over 10,500 entries from across the United States from students who will be attending college in the 2012-2013 academic year. CHC employees made the Finalist selection in a company-wide voting process which yielded 24 Finalists and 30 Honorable Mentions. The finalists were placed online for public vote from April 4th - May 3rd. The public's votes decided the five $1,000 Scholarship Winners, including the one Grand Prize Winner.
This was the fourth annual "Frame My Future" Scholarship Contest, and Church Hill Classics is planning to launch its fifth scholarship contest in the fall of 2012. The top five Winners' entries are shown below, and students are encouraged to view the 2012 Winners' and Finalists' entries and accompanying descriptions on the CHC website, at /FMF2012-Winners and to submit an entry in next year's contest.
