- Chris, Bourbon, IN

Below are Entry Piece examples for the "Frame My Future" Scholarship Contest.  These examples include a photograph with caption, a drawing, and an essay.  Please do not limit yourself with your submissions, as these are only a few sample entry ideas.  You can send us anything on an 8.5" x 11" piece of paper that you feel expresses: "This is how I frame my future." We are looking for the most creative, success-driven students!

Example Entry Piece #1:

This photo shows exactly how I plan to "Frame My Future”.   Just like in my photo of Padrao dos Descobrimentos, a monument in Portugal that honors Prince Henry the Navigator who braved the unknown during the Portuguese Age of Discovery, I feel that I am on a creative path of discovery as well.  With my camera in hand, I feel that I am on my way.  I am looking to get an understanding of the world, in an artistic way.  I know that with my camera, I will go to many places, and capture all that I can.  Photography is my passion.  With training, and studying the fine points of art and art history, my photography skills will only get better.  I’m looking forward to the challenges before me.  Just like in my photo.

Example Entry Piece #2:

ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES...

Example Entry Piece #3:

In Framing My Future, I would very much like to be a one-of-a-kind elementary school teacher.  I want to be the kind of teacher that every kid yearns to have, and doesn’t want to give up at the end of the school year. I realize that my ambition will mean a lot of hard work for it to come together.  The good thing is that for as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a teacher.

I’ve actually experienced wonderful teachers as I’ve grown up. That is probably one of the reasons why I see myself as a teacher. In thinking about it, these amazing teachers of mine made it look easy, but I know that it’s not.  They knew how to talk to us, and were able to explain all our subjects in a natural, easy-to-understand way. They were strict, so we had a daily routine with rules to follow, but we had a fun learning environment.

When I was younger, I have to admit, I would play school with my siblings and friends. My favorite part was being the teacher, of course!  I took it seriously, and actually taught my “students” information I learned from my class or from reading books.

If I could pull it off, I could see the possibilities of being a combination of several fiction and nonfiction teachers that I loved reading about as I grew up.  I would want to have the energy and creativity of Miss Frizzle of The Magic School Bus fame, and the sweetness and determination of Miss Nelson from Miss Nelson is Missing.  I have a lot of respect for Laura Ingalls Wilder who wrote books about the difficulties of growing up on the frontier during the 1800’s.  She became a teacher, and even though she was young, she did well at teaching as with anything she attempted.

Having the opportunity to become a teacher is very exciting to me.  I definitely want to “Frame My Future” as a teacher.
