BUILDING YOUR FRAME ONLINE

What does “image size” or “printed area” mean?
“Image size” is the size of the printed area of your document. You must measure from the top of the highest lettering to the bottom of the lowest image (usually the seal or signature) and the same applies to the lettering from left to right. This ensures a perfect fit for your document.

And what is the difference between image size and paper size?
“Paper size” is the actual, physical size of your document, while “image size” refers to the measurement of the actual text and/or seal from left to right and top to bottom of the document.

How do I measure my document before ordering a diploma frame?
When ordering on Create-A-Frame, we need to make certain that your diploma fits perfectly with your new diploma frame.  You will be prompted to fill out the exact paper size (see above), where you take a ruler or tape measure and measure the exact height and width of your diploma from edge to edge.  You will then need to fill in the exact printed area (see above).  This refers to the measurement of the actual text and/or seal from left to right and top to bottom of the document. Please be sure to use decimals and not fractions or your order can not be processed.

Do you have the frame I would like to order in stock?
Every frame is custom crafted for each order, so we do not have a stock of pre-made frames.  We take great pride in the craftsmanship and quality of our frames and create each with a specific individual in mind.

What materials do you use for your moulding?
Our frames are crafted in solid wood with a variety of distinctive furniture finishes.  We take pride in producing a very high quality product and, as such, are very selective about the quality of our frame mouldings.

Do you carry tassels, sashes or pennants?
The Pennant Edition Diploma Frame does include your school's pennant inside of the frame. Since your school typically provides you with a tassel or a sash appropriate to your degree type at your graduation, we do not include a tassel or sash with your frame.

Can I change the moulding on a frame?
If you are ordering from our Create-A-Frame collection, you may choose any moulding. If you are ordering for a particular school, it would depend on the school's policy for special orders.  Please feel free to email us at mailto:info@diplomaframe.com with any special requests.

Can I change the mat colors on this frame?
If you are ordering from our Create-A-Frame collection, you may choose any mat color or mat color combination. If you are ordering for a particular school, it would depend on the school's policy for special orders.  Please feel free to email us with any special requests.

If I use Create-A-Frame, can you emboss the name of my school on the matting?
In some cases, we cannot offer embossing of the school name due to licensing requirements. You can still design your frame with matting in your school colors and we do offer special insignias like military seals or legal scales. To design a frame like this, go to CREATE-A-FRAME under the FRAME SELECTION button.

Which one is most preferable, 1 mat or 2 mats? Which one protects the document better?
There is no difference between 1 and 2 mats in terms of protecting the document. It is merely a matter of personal preference. Most people choose a dark outer mat (black or navy) and may want an inner mat that is in the school color (red, for example) or gold is a very nice inner accent mat color that is very versatile.

TROUBLE SHOOTING FOR ONLINE SHOPPERS

Why can't I see the detail images on your site, like the moulding close-ups or medallion close-ups?
If you are not seeing frame options or other details, be sure to temporarily turn off any pop-up blockers that you may have. Sometimes these will block our details menus from coming up. Typically, a pop-up blocker will appear in the active icons in the lower right of your screen, near the clock. Right click on pop-up blacker icon and choose to disable or off. You can turn it back on after you are finished.

How do I find my school or organization on your site?
To locate a particular school, go to the search field on the top right of your screen, type in school name, and click the SEARCH button.

What if I still can not find my school?
If your school in not listed, you can still order a custom frame using our Create-A-Frame option. Click on the FRAME SELECTION button near the top of the page and choose the last option in the drop down menu titles CREATE-A-FRAME.

Why can't I see my order after clicking "View Cart" when placing an order through Create-A-Frame?
If your order does not automatically appear in your cart after clicking the "View Cart" button, please wait 5-10 seconds and refresh your browser.  Our Flash program requires a few extra seconds to process your order.
Please call us if you need additional assistance at 800-477-9005.

I am always hesitant to enter my credit card information online.  Is there any other way to make a payment?
We do offer a Verisign certified secure shopping cart using the latest encryption technology to protect your personal and credit card information. If you do not wish to order your frame online, feel free to call, fax or mail in your order:

Church Hill Classics

Monroe, CT 06468

If the frame you are interested in is available at one of our partner bookstores, we will refer you to them to make a purchase.  You can always call or stop by this retailer to make your purchase if you prefer. We always provide the local retailers phone number and street address for your convenience.

Why do you need the year of graduation when I order a diploma frame?
In some cases, schools change their diploma size over time.  We ask for this to be sure that we size the frame correctly based on the year in which you graduated.

Can I purchase just a medallion?
I am sorry but we are unable to offer only the medallion for sale. We have to be licensed for medallion products that we sell and we are only licensed to sell the entire frame including the medallion.

Can I purchase just an embossed mat board?
Due to the requirements of our licensing agreements, we are unable to sell the matting alone. We have permission to sell the complete framed product only. If you are looking for a particular frame style that may not be shown on the page you are looking at, we do have other moulding options from which you may choose. Here is a link to a page showing some other "special request" moulding options: http://www.diplomaframe.com/pages/120_frame_close_ups.cfm

How much does one of your frames cost?
In many cases with our school-specific frames, you can view and print a PDF brochure showing the available frame selection with pricing.  Look for this icon near the top of the product listing page: Brochure with PricesBrochure with Prices.

If we do not have an available brochure, please visit or call our partner store, or visit their Web site for pricing information.  While we are the manufacturer, certain frames are sold through our partner store on campus and they set the retail prices. The store will be able to quote pricing and they typically have a brochure available if you would like to receive one. To locate contact information for a partner store, please look for theStore Informationarrow icon near the top of your school's frame selection page. You may also email us at info@diplomaframe.com and we will provide you with any necessary information on our partner store at your school.

How do I purchase a frame if there isn't a place on the screen to “add to cart”?
We have established partnerships with leading college and university bookstores across the U.S.  If we have a retail partner, we refer you to them for making purchases because they are our resale partners for your institution.  Look for theStore Informationicon near the top of your school's frame selection page for contact information and Web links to a partner store.

If you are purchasing a frame directly from Church Hill Classics and you are having trouble with “add to cart,” please be sure to scroll down the page to be sure you can see the entire screen.  Sometimes on small monitors, you may not see part of the check-out process that asks for dimensions of your diploma.  To assure order accuracy, this information is required before you are able to move into the cart.  Please call us if you need additional assistance at 800-477-9005.

SHIPPING TIMES AND INFORMATION

How quickly can I expect to receive my frame after ordering?
Because every frame is custom crafted per order, please allow 7-14 days for production plus UPS delivery time from Connecticut to your location.  We can offer rush production and accelerated shipping options, so please give us a call if you need faster delivery.

How will my order be shipped?
Our standard shipping method is UPS Ground. Each item is fully insured and shipped in a custom box that has been designed in conjunction with UPS.  All frames are shipped fully insured.

Do you offer international shipping? If so, how much does it cost?
Yes we do offer international shipping, although we have to quote you on the shipping cost based on the size of the frame you want and your location. International shipping rates vary widely based on location, speed of service, and package size. If you can let us know what frame you were interested in and where you are located, we can provide a quote.

If I want a frame shipped internationally, how soon can I get it?
We require 7-10 business days to make and ship your order, plus transit time. We recommend using U.S. Mail Air Parcel Post, that runs about 2 weeks. We have found that shipping via surface (as opposed to air) is very slow (6-8 weeks) and somewhat unreliable.

I tried to put my international billing information in the billing address box, but it does not work for orders outside of the United States. What should I do?
If you can provide us with the desired frame(s) and your location (city and postal code included), we will email you a quote. We can then take your order via email, phone, or mail, and we do accept credit cards.  You can reach us by e-mail at info@diplomaframe.com or by phone at 1-203-268-1535 or 1-800-477-9005.

RETURN POLICIES AND ORDER ERRORS

What happens if I make a mistake or change my mind after placing my order?
We understand that mistakes do happen.  If you realize that your order needs to be changed or cancelled, please contact us immediately by either email, info@diplomaframe.com, or by phone, 800-477-9005.

How long do I have to return my frame if I decide I don't want it?
Our goal is to assure that you are delighted with your purchase.  If you are not satisfied for any reason, please let us know.  Your purchase is refundable within 30 days of receipt. We will either replace the product or issue a full refund of the purchase price, at your discretion.

CONSERVING YOUR DIPLOMA

What is the difference between archival or museum mat board and standard mat board?
Archival or museum mat boards and backing are acid-free and lignin-free in order to protect your document from damage and deterioration. This matting is not merely buffered to a neutral pH as less-expensive boards are, it is inherently neutral and will not change pH over time. It is critical to avoid any acidic exposure because acids eat away at the cellulose in your document, causing your paper to turn yellow and become brittle.

Are there any special considerations in hanging my diploma frame?
It is best to hang your diploma away from direct sunlight, in a location that is dry and free from dramatic temperature shifts.  Exposure to direct sunlight speeds up oxidation, which can lead to the gradual bleaching or discoloration of the document paper.  Dramatic temperature shifts can also lead to the deterioration of your document as well since paper fibers expand in humid climates and contact in dry temperatures. You do not want to store your diploma is a damp basement or in a high-humidity location because such conditions can promote mold growth on your document.  The ideal condition for your framed document would be around 70 degrees Fahrenheit and 50 percent humidity.

Why is the backing board so important?
You should choose a frame made with archival quality backing board to assure the safe and long-term preservation of your document or photo.  Corrugated cardboard, pressed wood or fiber board, and other products that are not proven to be archival quality will cause discoloration and brittleness to occur overtime.  When improper backing materials are used, the document typically turns yellow, exhibits cracking or brittleness to the touch, and may even develop striation marks that match the pattern in corrugated board.  To reverse or reduce such damage, you should contact an experienced Conservator.  For more information on these services, contact the American Institute for Conservation (AIC) at (202) 452-9545 for a referral.  You may also visit www.ppfa.com (for the Professional Picture Framers Association) and then select “Find a Conservator.”

How do I attach my diploma to the backing board?
We provide archival quality mounting materials with each frame.  These materials are considered archival because they are tested and proven to be completely reversible and safe for use in direct contact with valuable documents and artwork. Each frame comes with a step-by-step instruction sheet to illustrate how to use these materials and frame your document easily.  You always want to avoid using masking, scotch, or duct tape, glue, paperclips or staples.  These can damage your document permanently.

Why should I frame my diploma?
Since paper is a fragile material, over time, it can become dented, torn, dirty or otherwise damaged if not carefully protected from handling and environmental risks.  Paper is also susceptible to developing mildew stains, insect holes, scratches and taking on a dingy appearance. Matting and framing a diploma, which you have worked so hard for, is a perfect opportunity to professionally present this milestone accomplishment and reinforce the quality of one's educational institution.
