Father's Day - Tribute to My Dad

Dad putting

Dads who are there for us deserve a lot of praise on Father’s Day or any day. Those who help by reading a story and putting their children to bed or who play with their kids, have conversations, help them when they are sick, watch a movie (whether scoring high on Rotten Tomatoes or not), discuss schoolwork, and devote time to choosing a college, and giving other support as they become adults, and beyond that…those are the dads I’m talking about. That is how my dad has always been.

Birth of Black History Month and How the Legacy Lives On at Historically Black Colleges

By: Tyler Dickinson, Marketing Intern
In 1926, Carter G. Woodson started the concept of Black History Month. He was a historian and one of the first African Americans to earn a doctorate degree. Woodson dedicated the second week of February to observe African American History, the week that coincides Abraham Lincoln’s and Frederick Douglas’ birthdays. Woodson realized that the history of African Americans was not being represented adequately. He wrote The Journal of African American History a decade earlier, which he believed represented the African American experience accurately for the public. Woodson’s contributions led the USPS to issue a stamp honoring him in 1984.

To Our Veterans of the United States Military – Thank You!

Among your family and friends, what Veterans do you know and honor?

In mine, there are quite a few.  One in particular is a family man, married at 22 on August 24, 1947, after World War II to his 18-year-old Brooklyn neighborhood love, Vivian.

Graduation cap decorations – a pre-grad gathering!

Written by Shannon O'Gorman, Guest Blogger

Since freshman year, the girls of Newtown High School (NHS) eagerly await the time where they are able to decorate their graduation caps. They enviously watch the senior girls add pictures to Facebook of them all dressed up in their gowns and decorated caps, which highlight the college they will be attending and show off their personality. It’s not uncommon for girls to save the pictures of their favorite caps and use them for inspiration when their time finally comes to decorate their own.

Love Doesn't Cost a Thing

Written by Katie Turcio-Canales, Marketing Intern

Ooh la la, love is in the air, but unfortunately extra cash is not. As a college student I am used to finding ways to be savvy with my money, but that shouldn’t only apply because I am in college. Part of growing into adulthood is being financially responsible.

Our Frames Have Resolutions Too!

Don’t worry; this isn’t a cheesy “Our frames have feelings too!” post (even though we do treat our frames with the utmost care). Instead, we decided to poll some of our handcrafted frames right before they shipped out to our customers. We wanted to find out what our frames hope to accomplish this year. Needless to say, we were happy to find that our goals are pretty in sync.
